Sunday 12th April – Castle Farm

IMG_0294

The old rotten stile. The step is also very wobbly.

Sunday 12th April was overcast but dry and very windy. Fortunately the recent dry conditions allowed us to access a stile which has needed replacing all winter, south of Castle Farm, Garshall Green.

Paul, Richard and Jeff were the team for the day and we very quickly removed the very rotten old stile and planned the replacement. There was only one step on the old stile but the land dropped away very steeply on the south side of the boundary so we decided to install three steps to make access easier.

A solid existing post was to be used for one side of the dog gate but first this had to be straightened. We then started digging the eight holes needed.

Fortunately the ground here was soft and sandy and hole digging proved easy.

We soon got the new stile and dog gate in place and started fitting the steps.

This job was completed in record time and we were back at the Green Man for opening time!

It is great to see several hundred new trees have been planted lower down beside this path at Manor Farm.
