The day was bright and reasonably warm for the time of year. The team of Peter, Paul, Phil and Richard met up at the Green Man and headed up Potmans Lane to replace a stile that had seen better days.
It did not take too long to get the old stile out as most of it was rotten. It was not easy to access the space so while Phil and Richard dug the holes, Paul and Peter fabricated the new stile, complete with dog gate and mesh fencing.
The initial digging was through hard stoney ground but once down some distance it became easier as it was into (surprisingly wet) clay. The new stile was put in place and secured, by which time a cup of coffee was required!
We were then able to work on both sides of the stile to dig the step holes so the steps were soon in place and all that remained was to make good the fencing and complete the dog gate.
A small step was positioned in the bank to facilitate access.
There was just time to carry out a repair to a stile behind the Green Man before checking out the latest beers on offer inside.
