Summer 2016 Activities

The group has not done as much as usual during the summer months due to illness, holidays and work commitments.

However some clearing of paths has been completed. In addition a new latch was fitted to the bridleway gate at Potmans Lane to make it easier for horse riders to open and Paul and Richard replaced the post on the gate into the churchyard. the old post was rotten at the bottom and the gate had dropped as a result.

On Sunday 28th August five members were out to carry out a stile replacement and some other jobs close to the village.

Stile collapsed and path over bridge very overgrown.

Stile collapsed and path over bridge very overgrown.

The stile on the path from the church down to the footbridge over Milwich Brook had completely collapsed due to being rotten at ground level. The team of Richard, Peter, Mark, Phil and Paul met up at the job. There had been rain overnight but the morning was dry and bright. Obviously removal of the old stile was very quick and the team soon had the holes dug for the replacement. After a cup of coffee the holes were dug, the steps put in place and the finishing touches done. The vegetation by the bridge was also cut back

We then cleared the vegetation from the other footbridge at the opposite corner of the field and replaced the waymarker post by Bruffs Lane.

Thanks must go to Dave and Ruth Seabridge for the loan of the Landrover so that we could access these jobs on their land.

The bridge over Milwich Brook was suffering from bank erosion. If left like this for another winter it would probably have washed away. Unfortunately we did not have the materials or equipment to make this safe so we are grateful to Nige and the team at the County Council who came out this week and made it good for a few more years.
