First Session of the Year – February 2016

The team got off to an early start in 2016 with a session on Sunday 21st February. The day was dry but conditions underfoot were extremely wet after many days of rain. The plan was to catch up on a number of smaller jobs that were alongside the roads.

Finger post repaired, temporary repair to stile.

The day did not start well when it was discovered that the loaded trailer had a flat tyre. The tyre had even come off the wheel rim so a bit of persuasion and a compressor was needed to get us on the road. The session was well supported with five members of the group turning out: Paul, Richard, Mark, Jeff and Malcolm.

First job was to replace a kissing gate post on the path to the church. At the same time two of the team repaired the gate into the churchyard where the gate had dropped. After adding signage it was on to the next job by Coton Green Farm. Here the stile step was in need of replacement. After checking the stile, it was decided that that also needed replacement so a temporary step was fitted and the stile added to our list of jobs for later in the year.

It was then up Potmans Lane to repair a finger post and a damaged dog gate. We also discovered the stile was in a poor way so again, a temporary repair was completed and we will add that stile to the list.

Then to the edge of the parish at Morrilow Heath and a cup of coffee before replacing a finger post and installing two new stile steps to replace the single step that was rotten. We planned to do one more job, unfortunately by this stage the car battery was flat and we needed to disconnect the trailer and push start the car. At this point we felt it was wise to go straight home to give the battery an opportunity to charge.
