9th October – Beacon Bank

After 36 hours of nearly continuous rain, Sunday morning dawned dry and very mild for the time of year. Five of our team, including our latest recruit Kevin, met up at the Seabridge’s farm where Dave Seabridge kindly lent his Landrover for the cross country trip through several fields and four gates to the bottom of Beacon Bank.

The gate at this point is in poor shape and regularly left open by walkers. It was decided to install a stile and Dave would then move the gate to a new position. As a result, in addition to the new stile, we installed some fencing to the new gate posts that Dave had previously installed. Unfortunately, there were several roots to contend with so the job took some time but the finished result looks great.

From there we made our way up Beacon Bank where we replaced a rotten stile step. Once again the roots are everywhere. The stile needs replacing but the roots will probably mean this goes to the very bottom of our list!

At this point the Green Man beckoned so we enjoyed a well deserved couple of pints. Bonus, we picked up another volunteer, let’s hope he remembers when he is sober!
