A bright and dry morning saw regulars Paul and Richard joined by a new volunteer, Malcolm Calhaem from Fradswell. As there was only a small team we decided to do some smaller jobs that had been neglected.
First job was to replace the double step at the start of Footpaths 20 and 21 on Potmans Lane. This was urgently in need of repair as one of the supports had broken at ground level. The ground was reasonably soft and the holes were soon dug. A new double length step was fabricated and then we were off to the next job.
The fingerpost at Wheatlow Brooks has been broken for some time so this was quickly replaced. The land owner advised us that he was planning a new fence so there would be a stile required on Footpath 17. Another job for the list!
As we had a volunteer from Fradswell on the team, we thought it only right to do a job in their parish so off we went to the end of Hawkins Lane where the fingerpost had been missing for months. Once again, a new post was quickly installed. Whilst there, on request from local walkers, we installed a dog gate alongside the stile.
Our return to the Green Man was delayed due to meeting two vehicles with trailers on Wallbrook Lane, resulting in us having to unhitch our trailer and push it back 100 metres or more to a suitable passing place. The first pint was very welcome!
