We had been asked by the County Council if we could install a stile at Coton Mill where, for security reasons, the landowner was locking the gate.
It was a rather damp day on Thursday 20th September with some showers. However four volunteers turned out to install the new stile. Rails were removed from the existing fence to enable the holes to be dug for the stile. Initially the ground was very stony but once we broke through that layer it was reasonable clay. Access was good so all four were able to work at the same time so we soon had the stile and steps installed, followed by a dog gate. All that remained was to cut the old rails to length and nail on the waymarkers etc.
Unfortunately, although we were at the Green Man at opening time, it remained closed!!! See below for some pictures of the job and the team.
