Milwich & District Produce Guild

On 26th September, we welcomed Darren Rudge who gave members a fascinating talk on ‘Tea-bags, Bras and Tights.’ We were told how everyday household products – ie, aspirin, Epsom salts, baking soda, lard, eggs etc. all have various benefits in the garden. We were also shown how to make marrow rum and given a small taste to enjoy.

On 28th November, Mr Steve Booth will talk on ‘Staffordshire Hoards’ 1831-2012. Steve is a retired history teacher and treasurer of Stone Historical Society and has written two books on Stone and the Great War. We look forward to welcoming him to Milwich.

Our meetings are usually held at All Saints’ Village Hall on the fourth Thursday of each month, beginning at 8pm. Visitors are always welcome. For further information, please contact Mike Baggaley on 01889 270161 or  m_baggaley@btinternet.com

Green Lea Nursery and Wraparound Care

We have had a very hectic first half term, putting our own mark on our new area, and even if I do say so myself, it’s looking great. The theme this term is Kings and Queens, and the children have loved our castle role play area, we have witnessed lots of imaginary play, everything from what you would expect like Queens, Kings, Princes and Princesses to Jack, his cow Daisy, his beanstalks and giants. It’s been a pleasure just watching and hearing the children bringing their castle area to life.

The staff are working hard to get the small room finished ready for next half term, we are hoping to have a calming, sensory area, where the children can go and relax, while still having their senses simulated. This is going to be a real asset to the nursery, especially for the younger children who do get tired and overwhelmed, but it will be able to be used by the whole school if needed.

We are very excited about our Christmas panto this year “oh no you’re not” “ohhhhhh yes we are” for nursery and reception. We are actually having the performance come to us at school, they will be performing Aladdin, doing it this way gives a very child friendly, interactive way of seeing a pantomime, where the children get to meet the characters, ask questions and see what it is like to be an actor.

We are also planning our Christmas party, and nativity, dates and information will be given to parents and guardians as soon as everything is finalised.

And finally I must say a big thank you to the nursery staff, who have been working extra hard to make our new area special, exciting and fun for the children, with it only being a temporary area, it has been challenging, but with all the hard work it’s feeling and looking fantastic.

Green Lea Nursery offers the 30 hours funding (subject to criteria) we are also signed up to the tax free child care scheme, please see a member of staff for more information.

Green Lea Nursery runs Monday-Friday, sessions are 9.00am-1.30pm or 9.00am-3.00pm. Green Lea wraparound care sessions are 7.30am-9.00am and/or 3.00pm-5.45pm (term time only) for any further information please contact 01889 505309.
