Appeal after elderly man assaulted during burglary in Stafford

Hello Mr Mark Burton,

Detectives have released images of an elderly man’s injuries after he was assaulted during a burglary in Stafford.

At around 11.45am on Sunday (28 July), three masked men forced entry to a 78-year-old man’s home on New Street.

The vulnerable man was pushed and pinned to the floor by a man, whilst two other men searched his home.

The man suffered bruising to his arms, hands and ribs and was taken to hospital.

The three men made off with a bank card, a bus pass and a mobile phone.

One suspect is described as average build, 6 ft 1 and were wearing a black balaclava, goggles, a black waist-length jacket, black trousers and black woolly gloves.

Two other suspects are described as men wearing dark clothing and were wearing scarfs over their faces.

Detective Constable Kenneth Cox, from force CID, said: “This was a terrifying attack on a vulnerable man in his own home and we are keen to hear from anyone who may be able to help us catch those responsible.”

Anyone with information or anyone who may have seen anything suspicious is asked to email Kenneth.Cox quoting incident number 308 of 28 July.

Alternatively, for guaranteed anonymity, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

August/September News

Milwich & District Produce Guild

On 27th June, we welcomed back Derek Higgott who talked on “Proper Pruning and Propagation”.  Derek brought a bucketful of live material, and showed members the correct procedure for pruning the many varieties of trees, shrubs, and climbing plants.  It was a fascinating and enjoyable talk, and there were many questions asked [especially about the wisteria].

On 22nd August, Geoff Smith will talk on Fuchsias.  On 28th September we welcome Darren Rudge, whose talk entitled “Tea Bags, Bras and Tights”  sounds very interesting.

Our meetings are usually held on the fourth Thursday of each month, at All Saints’ Village Hall, beginning at 8pm.

Green Lea Nursery and Wraparound care

Well can’t really believe that the school year is over, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, friends and the local community for all the help and support they have given the nursery this year. I hope everybody enjoyed the graduation party, and found the church venue fitting for the occasion, I personally thought it was lovely, and very emotional.

It has been a year of change and challenges, going from a charitable, committee run preschool to a governor led nursery, which is fully integrated into the school. We all believe it’s been such a positive move for the nursery, we have a secure future, which in the economic climate is a huge bonus to both the children and staff, but more importantly we have access to a wealth of knowledge on the EYFS curriculum which is really enhancing the children’s early educational journey. A big thank you must go to all Green Lea staff, and especially Mrs Wilson the head teacher, whose hard work tends to be in the back ground, and goes unnoticed. We have more changes in the pipe line for the new school year, and all the staff are very excited about what the next academic year has in store, watch this space!

And finally on behalf of all the nursery staff, I would like to say a big thank you for all the gifts we received at the end of term, we are all most grateful and appreciate your thoughtfulness. All the staff hope the older children enjoy the next chapter in their educational journey, I am sure you will all fly at Green Lea, and remember “always dream big, and chase those dreams” and to the younger ones, we look forward to seeing you back in September. Have a great summer, have fun, stay safe and enjoy your holiday.

Green Lea Nursery offers the 30 hours funding (subject to criteria) we are also signed up to the tax free child care scheme, please see a member of staff for more information.

Green Lea Nursery runs Monday-Friday, sessions are 9.00am-1.30pm or 9.00am-3.00pm. Green Lea wraparound care sessions are 7.30am-9.00am and/or 3.00pm-5.45pm (term time only) for any further information please contact 01889 505309.

The equestrian members of the Milwich community will find the only Bridleway in the Parish a little easier to use after the rotten gate post was replaced yesterday by the Milwich Footpath Maintenance Group. It should now be possible to open the gate on horseback. It was warm work in the heat though!
