Milwich & District Produce Guild

On 27^th June, we welcomed back Derek Higgott who talked on “Proper Pruning and Propagation”.  Derek brought a bucketful of live material, and showed members the correct procedure for pruning the many varieties of trees, shrubs, and climbing plants.  It was a fascinating and enjoyable talk, and there were many questions asked [especially about the wisteria].

On 22^nd August, Geoff Smith will talk on Fuchsias.  On 28^th September we welcome Darren Rudge, whose talk entitled “Tea Bags, Bras and Tights”  sounds very interesting.

Our meetings are usually held on the fourth Thursday of each month, at All Saints’ Village Hall, beginning at 8pm.

Green Lea Nursery and Wraparound care

Well can’t really believe that the school year is over, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, friends and the local community for all the help and support they have given the nursery this year. I hope everybody enjoyed the graduation party, and found the church venue fitting for the occasion, I personally thought it was lovely, and very emotional.

It has been a year of change and challenges, going from a charitable, committee run preschool to a governor led nursery, which is fully integrated into the school. We all believe it’s been such a positive move for the nursery, we have a secure future, which in the economic climate is a huge bonus to both the children and staff, but more importantly we have access to a wealth of knowledge on the EYFS curriculum which is really enhancing the children’s early educational journey. A big thank you must go to all Green Lea staff, and especially Mrs Wilson the head teacher, whose hard work tends to be in the back ground, and goes unnoticed. We have more changes in the pipe line for the new school year, and all the staff are very excited about what the next academic year has in store, watch this space!

And finally on behalf of all the nursery staff, I would like to say a big thank you for all the gifts we received at the end of term, we are all most grateful and appreciate your thoughtfulness. All the staff hope the older children enjoy the next chapter in their educational journey, I am sure you will all fly at Green Lea, and remember “always dream big, and chase those dreams” and to the younger ones, we look forward to seeing you back in September. Have a great summer, have fun, stay safe and enjoy your holiday.

The equestrian members of the Milwich community will find the only Bridleway in the Parish a little easier to use after the rotten gate post was replaced yesterday by the Milwich Footpath Maintenance Group. It should now be possible to open the gate on horseback. It was warm work in the heat though!

Milwich & District Produce Guild

Our May meeting was a visit to The Garth, at Milford.  Twenty members enjoyed the hospitality of Anita and David Wright, who showed us their wonderful garden with its areas of rare trees, unusual shrubs, and many varieties of hostas and ferns, planted at different levels. There was a different view at each and every turn, and when we had thoroughly explored the garden, we moved into the house for tea, and a tableful of cakes.  Thank you Anita and David, it was a memorable visit.

We are out and about again for our July meeting, on the 25^th.  This time we travel to Idlerocks Farm at Spot Acre.  Will members please meet at Idlerocks at 7pm.

Apart from visits, and trips out, our meetings are usually held on the fourth Thursday of the month, at All Saints’ Village Hall, beginning at 8pm.

Green Lea Nursery and wraparound care

Well the end of term is fast approaching, and we have a very busy remaining few weeks. This year we have decided to follow in Green Lea school’s footsteps and hold our annual graduation in the church, we have pencilled in July 15^th but this date is to be confirmed, letters will sent to all parents shortly to give details and running schedule.

This term we have been looking at our time in nursery, the friends we have made, memories we have, how we have all grown into the individuals we are today and onto our next step into school life. The hungry caterpillar book has been our base for lots of our learning this term, as he grows and changes into the beautiful butterfly. Claire with the help of the children has been working hard on a lovely hungry caterpillar display which incorporates a memory tree for all the children to share their memories of Green Lea nursery. We also have some real caterpillars that we are caring for, and fingers crossed we can see them turn into butterflies and released in our garden before the end of term.

All the staff at Green Lea nursery would like to say a big thank you to parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, friends and the local community for all their support this academic year. This year has been a big year for the nursery, going from a charity, committee run pre-school to a governor led nursery that is fully incorporated into Green Lea first school. We have had a few niggles, but with the support of school and nursery staff, the change has gone well and we are now looking forward to more exciting new changes over the next school year. And finally the biggest thank you must go to all the children, who make the nursery the vibrant, exciting, energetic and fun place to learn, on behalf of all the nursery staff. It’s been a pleasure and a privilege to have been part of your early educational journey, and we are all exceptionally proud of the lovely, caring, kind, clever little people you are all growing into.
