Milwich Post Office

As mentioned in previous posts, Milwich Post Office is temporarily closed. First, a few words from our retiring Postmistress, Sue and then news of the future opening:

Thank you to all the lovely people who have shown us friendship and support through the very bad times and many good times we have spent here at Prospect House over the last 14 years. Thanks also to everyone who has used the Post Office and helped to keep it open! Keep it up! Milwich Post Office will still be open – from June11th and your new Post Mistress Caroline, will be there to greet you!

I’m off to the coast and (hopefully) summer climes but I will be back on regular visits to see family and friends so no doubt I will see one or two familiar faces again.

Bye for now!  Sue

The Future:

There will be a change for all of us in Milwich and Fradswell. Now when we go to our Post Office a new face will greet us.

Can we all welcome CAROLINE as our Post Mistress at Milwich Post Office, re-opening June 11th

We wish her every happiness as she joins us

Sue, after many years as our Post Mistress, is moving away and making a fresh start, We have all so much appreciated her smile and all that she has done for us in our Post Office.

So we thank Sue and wish her every happiness in the future.

June News

Milwich & District Produce Guild

On April 25th, we welcomed Carl Woodward, The Maple Man, who gave us an interesting talk on acers.  He brought several varieties of plants, and also lots of seeds. We all took some of the seeds to try and germinate ourselves.  It should be interesting to see how we go on.  We might have some interesting maple trees for sale one day!

June 27th sees a return visit from Derek Higgott, who will talk on Proper Pruning Practices, and Propagation.

July 25th  is the day we pay a visit to Idlerocks Farm, Spot Acre.  We’re meeting at 7pm at Idlerocks.

Our meetings are usually held in All Saints” Village Hall on the fourth Thursday of the month, but in the summer, we go on outings, which are always advertised in Compass.

Green Lea Nursery and wraparound care

Well I really can’t believe we are now in our last half term of the academic year, and we are starting preparations on our annual leavers’ graduation (date to be confirmed) and this half term we are looking back at our leavers’ time in nursery, the friends everybody made, the fun we have all had and all the different things we have learnt. This half term our nursery leavers have been having  some learning and play sessions in class one, in readiness for September. We are hoping this will make the transition into school even easier, as we all know it can be a very unsettling and sometimes scary time, so the more familiar we can make the children with their new class the better.

This year we will be joining the reception class for our Summer trip, and we have various workshops booked at the potteries museum and art gallery (date to be confirmed); the children are thoroughly looking forward to the outing, as we have such a creative group this year.

We are continuing with lots of outdoor activities this half term, especially making sure our newly potted plants are fed and watered. In forest school we are looking at the ancient Japanese art form Hapa-Zome, Hapa-Zome translated means “leaf dye” and the children will be pounding different plants to release their natural pigment on to cloth.

And finally nursery is now full on a Friday, and we only have very limited places on the other days, We would advise anybody who is interested in the nursery contact us as soon as possible to secure a place.

Green Lea Nursery offers the 30 hours funding (subject to criteria) we are also signed up to the tax free child care scheme, please see a member of staff for more information.

Green Lea Nursery runs Monday-Friday, sessions are 9.00am-1.30pm or 9.00am-3.00pm. Green Lea wraparound care sessions are 7.30am-9.00am and/or 3.00pm-5.45pm (term time only) for any further information please contact 07974719522 or 01889505309.

Now in their ninth year, the Footpath team is still going strong. So far this year they have replaced 3 finger posts and repaired 5 stile steps. Yesterday, they replaced their 42nd stile since starting. A dog gate was installed at the same time. Milwich are one of the few areas that install dog gates whenever they can.

The stile near the Red Lion was in a very poor state of repair. So on a lovely spring morning the team were out working.

After just a couple of hours work it was looking significantly better and should be good for a few years.

Well done to the team of Jeff, Peter and Richard, plus Paul who took the picture.

if anyone wants to join the team, they would be very welcome. Contact us at mac@milwich.com.
