The Hyacinth Bulb Show was held in the village hall on 22nd February.

This was the second year that the Guild decided to concentrate the bulb show on hyacinths, and it proved a good move, as there were 48 entries, giving an excellent display in all classes.

Best exhibit in the show was a bowl of three hyacinths – any colour other than blue, white or pink – entered by Brian & Sonia Boughey, which won the Ivy Cotton Challenge Cup.

The BTJ Challenge Trophy for the most points in the show was also won by Brian & Sonia.  Second and third were Frances Evans and Mike Baggaley respectively.

Show secretary Chris Bulman thanked everyone for their support they had given, which had once again produced a wonderful display.

On 28th April, we welcome Dean Williams who will talk on Help for Heroes.  Dean spent 27 years in the Army, including 10 years in the Infantry.  He was also in the Royal Army Physical Training Corps Rehabilitation, in many recovery centres.

If you are interested in the work done by Help for Heroes, please come to this meeting, it starts at 8pm.  There is no charge, but there will be a raffle.

Our meetings are usually held in the village hall on the fourth Thursday of the month, beginning at 8pm. For further information, please contact Mike Baggaley on 01889 270161 or m_baggaley@btinternet.com

Milwich Pre-School

We hope everybody has a lovely Easter break and enjoys some yummy chocolate? Our annual Easter egg hunt and bonnet parade were a great success again, and this year we were joined by the children of Green Lea, we must say a big thank you to all the children and parents who showed off their artistic skills and produced some amazing creations, and also to FOGL who volunteered to help run our Easter extravagance.

Due to the weather conditions, school closures and Easter, we have decided to continue our ‘under the sea’ theme throughout the next half term, and after our trip to the sea life centre Birmingham we are full of fishy facts to help us with our activities.

As part of our music and movement sessions preschool have join the reception class on a Friday morning for a yoga bears class, all the children have thoroughly enjoyed this activity and we must say thank you to Mrs Blaize our yoga teacher.

Preschool and Green Lea have had some wonderful news that Miss Swingewood our forest school teacher has given birth to a baby girl Dorothy, we were so glad to hear of the safe arrival, as Dorothy decided to make an appearance as the beast of the East hit!!! Milwich W I  Report                                 February 2018

Paramedic Katie Hill had always wanted to work with people who needed help with health issues and with care. As a youngster she joined the Saint John’s Ambulance Brigade, so after school she became a student paramedic going to University to take a 30 week intensive course after which she went on placement to have her skills signed off. She qualified in 2017 and now is a full time paramedic based in Stafford, however she may be called to Sutton Coldfield, Walsall, Cannock or New Cross Hospitals. She has many duties, from taking patients to hospital for appointments, taking patients after they are discharged, to driving at 90mph on the motor way to help at an accident. Her shifts are usually 12 hours long during the day and night which may be extended if a situation needs more time. Katie answered many questions and members were all very proud of a young person who is so enthusiastic about her career and hoping to remain with the service until she retires.

Doug Bradbury will be telling members “Tales of a Master Farrier” on March 14th at 7.30pm at All Saints Village Hall.

Visitors are always welcome to very happy and interesting meetings held on the second Wednesday of the month. For further information please ring Sue Lloyd on 01889 505470 or May Yates on 01889 505518

Milwich & District Produce Guild

In January we welcomed back Ruth Williams, who gave us an interesting talk, with slides, on the Hidden Gems of Staffordshire (part two).  She took us across the county, showing us some historical, and colourful places of interest.

On March 20th, Geoff Smith will take us Behind the Scenes at Chelsea Flower Show,- an area we don’t normally get to see.  Sounds interesting.

Our meetings are usually held on the fourth Thursday of the month, at All Saints’ Village hall, beginning at 8pm.  Visitors always welcome.  For further information, please contact Michael Baggaley on 01889 270161. Or –          m_baggaley@btinternet.com

Milwich Pre-School Newsletter

We have had a fantastic start to the new year, the first half-term has flown by. A big thank you must go to our preschool/local community who came into school to tell us all about their jobs, and how they help us, so with that thought in mind we turn our attention to our mummies, we all know how much our mummies help us everyday, so we will be surprising them on Mothering Sunday, with hand made cards and gifts.

This half-term our theme is “under the sea” we will be exploring lots of different sea activities, as well as seeing how we can help to keep the sea waters clean and pollution free, fingers crossed we can fit in a trip to the aquarium.

As well as all our under water activities, we will be celebrating Easter, we have lots of crafts planned, and our annual Easter egg hunt, we will also be asking the parents and children to get crafty at home for our bonnet parade, which has become something of a preschool tradition.

Next half term we will be joining the Green Lea reception class for yoga, this activity will take place on a Friday morning as part of our music and movement session, we already have very excited children.

And finally we would like to wish Miss Swingewood our forest school teacher all the best as she goes on maternity leave, we are looking forward to meeting the new arrival.

Preschool is offering the 30 hours funding (subject to criteria) we are also signed up to the tax free child care scheme, please see a member of staff for more information.

Preschool runs Monday-Friday, sessions are 9.00am-1.30pm or 9.00am-3.00pm. Lollipops wraparound care sessions are 7.30am-9.00am and/or 3.00pm-5.45pm (term time only) for any further information please contact 07974719522.
