Members were very pleased to welcome Elaine Hocknell, one of our own members, to demonstrate and talk about Good Food and Nutrition. Elaine explained that she had trained many years ago at Elizabeth Gaskell College in Manchester, and had retired from teaching fifteen years ago. She taught at Meaford Pre -School, Graham Balfour and Stafford College, the age group of her pupils being from three to seventy three!
The aim of her demonstration was healthy eating with quick dishes – she prepared and cooked two fish dishes, a chicken dish and completed with a fruit pavlova – all within an hour (using a microwave). Elaine encouraged the need to use brightly coloured fruit and vegetables such as Parsley, Lemons, Peppers, Broccoli and Blueberries within the diet. Each dish being very delicious after being tasted by a very willing audience.
Lynn Eaton, another local lady, will be joining members on 13th December to demonstrate Christmas Crafts. Refreshments are “bring and share” to make the evening very special. Members welcome visitors to very happy and interesting meetings held on the second Wednesday of the month at All Saints Village Hall at 7.30pm. For further information ring Sue Lloyd on 01889 505470 or May Yates on 01889 505518

As we prepare to say goodbye to 2017 and welcome in 2018, we have just enough time to squeeze in some exciting things. December is always a busy month at preschool and to start the month off with a bang we will be holding our much loved nativity performance on 4th December starting at 2.00pm, mulled wine and mince pies will be served while you take your seats. We then head off for our annual Christmas trip to the Gate house theatre, Stafford to see Robin Hood…”oh no we don’t, oh yes we do”. A big thank you to staff member Claire who always organises this trip for us to enjoy. The children are also very excited about joining forces with the staff and pupils at Green Lea for the Christmas party, we have lots of fun and games, a delicious buffet lunch that is provided and served by the lovely ladies from the W.I, and if we are all really good there may even be a guest appearance by a very special visitor dressed in red!!!
After our Christmas break our theme for the next half term will be ‘people who help us.’ We are hoping to have lots of visitors from the local and wider community coming in to talk to us about their jobs and how we as a preschool can help others in lots of different ways. We will also be celebrating the year of the dog for Chinese new year, with lots of crafts, food tasting and we will also be learning a Chinese lion dance in our music and movement session.
Preschool will be closing on 19th December 2017 at 5.45pm and we will return from our Christmas break on 4th January 2018 at 7.30am.
All the preschool staff would like to wish everybody a very merry Christmas have a safe and prosperous New Year, and finally all at preschool want to take this opportunity to thank every parent, grandparents, family, friends and the community for their continuing support throughout 2017. Preschool has gone from strength to strength this year and that is down to the fantastic staff who work tirelessly to give all the children the best start in their educational journey, but also down to all of you, who also support us tirelessly.
Preschool is offering the 30 hours funding (subject to criteria) we are also signed up to the tax free child care scheme, please see a member of staff for more information.
